Top Ten Tuesday: 2020 Seasonal TBR List Rollovers

I don't know about you, but there are a lot of books I meant to get to in 2020 but didn't.  Like a lot.  Some of them didn't happen because I lost interest, others got pushed aside for more pressing reads, and still others just didn't make the cut when my mood caused me to reach for one genre over another.  For whatever reason, there are hundreds of titles I meant to read in 2020 and didn't.  This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is just that:  Top Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2020 But Didn't Get To.  Since I don't want to list four hundred forgotten books, I'm going to take one of the prompt's suggestions and look back at the seasonal TBR lists I created in 2020 and see how many of those books I actually read.

First, though, I want to encourage you to participate in the TTT fun by hopping over to That Artsy Reader Girl, where you can find all the info on how to join up with this diverting weekly meme.

Top Ten Books On My 2020 Seasonal TBR Lists That I Still Need to Read

Because I did not do a Fall list, but created two lists each for Spring and Summer, I had a total of 50 books on last year's seasonal TBR lists.  How many of them did I actually read?  Drumroll, please ... 19!  Not too shabby, really.  Let's break it down by season and see which titles I still most want to read:

Spring:

Books on list I still want to read most:

The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat by Edward Kelsey Moore

A Good Neighborhood by Therese Ann Fowler

TBR List, Part Two—read 3/10
Books on list I still want to read most:

All the Ways We Said Goodbye by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig, and Karen White

Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn

Summer:

TBR List, Part One—read 2/10
Books on list I still want to read most:

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

The Answer Is: Reflections on My Life by Alex Trebek

TBR List, Part Two—read 7/10
Books on list I want to read most:

All the Greys on Greene Street by Laura Tucker

Splinters of Scarlet by Emily Bain Murphy

Winter:

TBR List—read 1/10
Books on list I want to read most:

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

Death in the Family by Tessa Wegert

There you go, ten books from my 2020 seasonal TBR lists that I still want to read.  Have you read any of them?  What did you think?  Which books are you rolling over from your 2020 lists?  I'd truly love to know.  Leave me a comment on this post and I will return the favor on your blog.

Happy TTT!

  1. I'm so curious about The Answer Is...

Alex Trek was one of a kind. :)

    My post.

    1. I don't know much about him except that he seemed like a really great person. I'm excited to find out more.

      Thanks for coming by, Lydia!

  2. I liked Love Lettering. I am definitely a fan of Clayborn's after her last series, and am excited about the followup to Love Lettering.

    1. Good to hear! I haven't read anything by Clayborn, but I've heard good things about her books. Maybe 2021 will be the year I actually give her a try.

Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!

  3. I don't read enough biographies so the Alex Trebek book looks interesting. Have a great Tuesday!

    1. Same. I love learning about interesting people, but I always seem to prioritize fiction over non-. I need to make room this year for at least ONE biography.

      Thanks for stopping by, Colletta!

  4. Home Before Dark by Riley Sager made my TTT post this week too!

    P. S. I see that you are listening to: Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling.... This book is on my radar. Looking forward to reading your review of it.

    1. I've enjoyed both of the Sager books I've read, so I'm excited to read HOME BEFORE DARK. I just requested it from the library, so hopefully I'll get to it soon.

CACTUS is an excellent book! I really liked it. I didn't love the narrator on the audiobook, so I'm not sure I'd recommend reading it that way. It's a great read, though. I just requested the sequel from the library.

      Thanks for coming by!

    2. Thanks for the heads up on the narrator not being the greatest for CACTUS as I do love audiobooks, but dislike bad/poor narrators.

  5. I listened to the Alex Trebek book and really enjoyed it. He and Ken Jennings narrated it. Love Lettering is on my TBR. I also read or listened to The Thursday Murder Club and All the Ways We Said Goodbye which were both good, but not at the same level. I hope you enjoy all of these Susan.

    1. Oooh, I have an e-ARC of the Trebek book on my Kindle so I was going to read it that way, BUT maybe I need to listen to it instead. I do love Trebek's voice!

  9. Well, I don't have 400 put aside from last year, but I do have several dozen and that is kind of scary because I've already started a stack for 2021.

Among the ones on your list, I have the Trebek book and the one by Fowler. Other carry-overs I hope to get to soon include The Diabolical Bones by Bella Ellis, A Beam of Light by Andrea Cammileri, and a collection of time travel stories called Beyond Time. So much choice...it doesn't get any better than that.

    1. Oooh, I just looked up THE DIABOLICAL BONES and it sounds really good! I'll have to add it to my always-growing TBR list.

And I absolutely agree - as much as it frustrates me that I can't read EVERYTHING, I'm grateful to have so many options. I'll never run out of things to read, no matter how hard I try!

Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!

    1. Excellent point. I just DNF'd a book I thought I would love. I was almost halfway through before I was finally like, "This book is odd. I don't like the characters. Why am I still reading this?" LOL.

    1. I'm not very good about following a TBR list, even in normal years. I enjoy making them, though! It's fun to *think* about what I *might* want to read, even if I don't actually do it :)

  21. Seasonal TBRs are another thing I'm trying to focus on in 2021 since there are so many books from those I haven't read either. And many keep getting recycled to new seasonal TBRs haha. All the best with this new reading year - may you read all the things you want to! :) Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

    1. I never hold myself to seasonal TBR lists - I know myself too well! It's fun to make them, though, and think about what books I'd like to read, even if I never actually get to them.

      Thanks for stopping by, Sarah!

  22. Oh I like how you did this! I make a list every season and there are always so many that I don't get to reading! I'm trying to do better but 2020 wasn't the year!

  23. I don't know any of these books, though a couple of them I've been seeing on other lists this week. 19 out of 50 books is definitely a good amount, though I think having hundreds of books on my TBR would terrify me, haha. I hope you enjoy these when/if you get around to them!

    1. Ha ha. I put books on my TBR lists any time I find one that looks interesting. I'm not hard-core about actually reading them, though. If one isn't working for me, I DNF that baby! I just like having all the books I'm interested in reading in one place. My memory is terrible, so it helps me remember what I want to read.

      Thanks for stopping by, Holliehocks!

  24. I definitely should have featured the Thursday Murder Club on my list - that was one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 and I just didn't manage to get to it! Well done for ticking off so many of your TBR titles though.

  26. Ooo... I love the cover for All the Greys. The colors meet one of my aesthetics. XD

Hope you enjoy these books when you get to them, and thanks for visiting Shell's Stories!

  27. What a fun way to combine stats with content. Lots that look good; I think the Alex Trebek memoir is the one I most want to read off this list, though it'll have to wait until I'm less saddened by the prospect. Still kind of in the denial phase...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Seeing Alex Trebek makes my heart hurt.

I tend to roll over my seasonal TBRs too. There were a couple of books from last year that rolled over more than once.
