School's Out and I'm Hopping for ... Joy, Yeah, That's It

Even though I already posted today, I wanted to get in on this week's Blog Hop. I always love hopping around the book blogosphere checking in on blogs I love and discovering new ones. It makes me happy, especially since I'm currently mourning the ending of the school year. Not that I don't adore my kiddos. I just foresee a very long summer full of arguing and "I'm bored"s. Since I need a little cheering up (and because I really, really want to get to 500 Followers), I'm going to start hopping. Join me, won't you?

This week's question is: Which book-to-movie adaptation have you liked? Which have you disliked?

- The movies that first come to mind are the Harry Potter ones. I thought the casting was incredible - the actors brought the characters to life just as I'd pictured them in my head. And with the sets, the adaptation and everything else, well, magical is all I can say.

As far as movie adaptations I didn't like, the two that stand out are Twilight and Stardust. If you've seen the former, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's so bad, it's funny. Stardust just didn't do the book justice. Loved the book, detested the film.

What about you? Which have you liked? Which didn't work for you? I'd love to know.

Thanks for stopping by BBB. Please leave me a comment and a link to your blog so I can hop by and visit you. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  1. I quite liked Stardust. The novel's good too but I've never really got on with Neil Gaiman's style. My only problem with the film was the Captain of the airship.

Conversely, I hated the Harry Potter films because of the casting!

Do I get points for actually agreeing with you on Twilight though? :P

  2. Happy Friday! I'm an old follower hopping through. Hmm... I usually don't like book to movie adaptations - I really really didn't like Memoirs of a Geisha. I can't really think of one that I liked (I'm hoping to find a few for my books to movies challenge that I am participating in this year!).

If you have time I am giving away a copy of Wings of Fate on my blog and would love for you to check it out!

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I also loved the Harry Potter books/movies. I didn't realize Stardust was a book (and I really liked the movie), so I'll have to read the book for sure!!

  4. Hi! Thanks for hopping by & commenting :)

I actually haven't read any of the HP books. I know, I know that's like blasphemy in the blogesphere but I just wasn't interested as a kid. Have no clue why but there it is.

I'm with you on the Twilight films but they did make me laugh & I had fun times with friends (who also read the books) because they were so bad. I think Twilights saving grace is that people read the books after seeing the film & then read other YA books so if it got people reading then it's a good thing, right? In hindsight I wish I included that in my post :)

  5. Hanna - His style is a little different and I can see why it doesn't work for everyone. I, however, love him!

Yes, the captain was one of my biggest beefs with the movie. Just eeewwww.

Bonnie - I'm trying to remember Memoirs of a Geisha ... Hm ...

Somer - Yep, Stardust is a great book. One of my faves.

Jennifer - I agree - the Twilight books and movies revolutionized the YA reading scene and got so many teens interested in reading and that is a very good thing. But the movie - so, so bad!

  6. I have yet to read all the Harry Potter books, my son LOVED them and LOVED the movies too! I liked the Twilight books better (although New Moon did well with the movie). My son stopped watching the Twilight movies because he said they ruined them :) Great to meet you via hopper! Hope to see more!

  7. True, the HP characters were totally like I imagined in my head- I never thought about that before :O

    Thanks for stopping by :)

  8. HP & Lord of the Rings are both fun and close enough that I love them.

Any BBC produced Austen book. And add Paltrow's Emma but not Knightly's Pride and Prejudice.

    The Narnia's are cute.

    Eragon was a disappointment.

If you ask me about any book gone film right after I can usually tell you what I liked and what I was sad to see chopped but later, if it was well enough made, I will just say that I liked it.

  9. I love that our answers are basically the same! I can't say enough good things about Harry Potter - books or movies, and that's rare because usually books are soooo much better than the movies. I haven't read or seen Stardust, gonna have to check out the book.

  10. I agree with you about the Twilight movies. Stardust though I loved but I have not read the book even though it's on my bookshelf still waiting to be read.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! New follower!

  11. I love the fact that in so many movies based on Stephen King books, the dialogue from the book comes right out of the mouth of the movie's actors. It happened in "The Shawshank Redemption" and in "Stand By Me" (based on the novella, "The Body"). Both of these movies are brilliant adaptations of King's books and I could watch them over and over again.

  12. You didn't like Stardust? I loved Stardust! I haven't read the book but that's one of my favourite fantasy movies. I'll agree with you on Twilight though, I saw the movie before I read the book and it wasn't just a bad adaptation it was a bad movie.

  13. Yup, I totally agree. I think Harry Potter, despite a few pieces left out, has, as a series and a franchise, really done well by the book.

And goo NIGHT, the Twilight "movies" were/are just awful. I actually enjoyed the books, mildly, but the movies just bomb for me. Sad.

I've never read nor seen Stardust so I can't compare.

  14. Hi! New follower. I quite liked Stardust, actually, though it wasn't really very Neil Gaiman. I loved the book too.
    HP: perfect!
Thanks for hopping by my blog, and I hope you had a great weekend!

  15. i get scared of movies for books i truly love. i enjoyed the HP books, and the films too, but they were fun books...not heart books. one heart book came out as a film last year...never let me go....and i just couldn't go because i feared tainting the love. i did see atonement, but my love for that one was more limited (loved part 1, could pass on the war sections) so i could justify it.

fyi...found you via the Faith book tour and posting my own review tomorrow (been in the hopper for a month so glad to pull the post trigger)

  16. Atonement.

Definitely the best book to film adaption about.
