Top Ten Tuesday: Vague Bookish Goals for 2026
9:57 AM
2026 has barely started and it's already speeding by! I'm still playing catch up after being gone for two weeks over the holidays, so this week's TTT prompt—Top Ten Goals for 2026 (bookish or otherwise)—is going to be a bit difficult as I haven't made any concrete New Year's resolutions yet, not for me personally or for my blog. I have some vague ideas of what I'd like to accomplish here at BBB. We'll see if I hit ten or not.
As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl.
Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2026
- Read 200 books—This has been my reading goal for the last five years or so. Most years I exceed it with no problem; we'll see what happens this year.
- Read more of my own books—My shelves are literally sagging under the weight of all the books I've piled on them. I have hundreds of paper review books and ones I've bought that are waiting to be read as well as a ton of e-ARCs. All my shelves need culling. Desperately.
- Post more reviews—I used to post almost every day here on BBB, but those days are loooonnnngggg in the past. These days, I pat myself on the back if I manage to do just a TTT post each week. I would like to post more reviews, maybe even set up a *gulp* schedule so that I publish at least one a week.
- Up my NetGalley ratio—This is a losing battle. My current ratio is an abysmal 5%. Even though it's so low, I'm still able to get most of the e-ARCs I want. Still, I feel some guilt about how many I've requested vs. how many I've actually read/reviewed.
- Complete all, or at least most, of the reading challenges I've taken on—I do reading challenges because they're fun. If I don't finish them, no biggie, but I do enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get from completing them.
- Reorganize my "owned" shelves—When I moved into this house about four years ago, I had purged so many books that I was able to organize all of my remaining volumes on my shelves in a lovely, uncluttered way. Now, I've got books stacked every which way. The genres are all mixed up. Some purging and rearranging is definitely in order.
- Listen to more audiobooks—My husband is all gung-ho about going on a cruise in May to see ruins in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. It's going to involve a lot of hiking, which means I need to get my butt (and the rest of me) in shape before then (and beyond then). My goal is really to exercise consistently, but I generally listen to audiobooks while doing so, so I bookified it to make it seem more doable and fun ;)
- Make progress in series that I'm reading—I love deep diving into characters and settings, so series always appeal to me—a little too much! I'm in the middle of a bunch of them, and I would like to move forward in at least some of them. I'm doing a series reading challenge, so that will help.
- Read more uplifting books—Mysteries and thrillers are my favorite, but they're always so depressing! I need to balance them out with books that are lighter and happier. I've been reading more cozy mysteries in the past couple years; I could stand to expand my horizons, though. What do you suggest? Who are your go-to authors for books that are mood-boosting, but not cheesy, didactic, or silly? Bonus points if they're well-written mysteries.
- Engage more with your blogs—I'm very consistent about visiting all the blogs that participate in TTT, but other than that, I haven't been great about stopping by and visiting all y'all. I'll try to do better in 2026!
There you go, ten reading/blogging goals I have for this new year. What about you? What are your resolutions for 2026? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Resolutions I Make (And Break) Every Year
7:29 AM
Top Ten Tuesday is my favorite weekly meme by far and wide so, despite recent tweaks, I'm sticking with it. In case you haven't heard, TTT will no longer be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. In fact, that blog is dissolving. You can read goodbye posts from the contributors that include links so you can follow them individually on their own blogs and social media accounts. Thank you, ladies, for all your hard work over the years! From now on, TTT will be handled by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Be sure to stop in and give her some love. To join in the TTT fun, just read up on the meme, make your own list, then have a good ole time hopping around the book blogosphere. It's a great way to find new blogs to follow, revisit old favorites, and of course, add to your TBR list mountain mountain chain. What's not to love?
This week's topic is: Top Ten Bookish Resolutions/Goals. I feel like I've already talked about this, so forgive the redundancy. I'm really not making any hard and fast bookish resolutions for the new year, but here's what I wouldn't mind accomplishing:
1. Read 200 Books. This has been my yearly goal for a number of years now. The closest I've come is 186 in 2011. I read 158 last year, so we'll see what happens in 2018.
2. Read more non-fiction. I've always been a fiction kind of girl, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy an intriguing biography, a scintillating memoir, a fun pop-psych book, or an uplifting inspirational read now and then. I avoid anything too deep or too dry, but other than that, I'm fairly open ... Anyone have any great recommendations?
3. Comment More. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty good about commenting on other people's blogs. I know how much I enjoy it when people react to my posts, so I always try to return the favor. However, I'd like to do better about visiting ALL the blogs on my reader and commenting regularly so the authors know how much I enjoy their work.
4. Keep up on reviews. You guys, I totally suck at this. Totally. My bookish OCD makes me feel like I have to give every book I read its day in the sun, so I can't cheat with mini-reviews, skipping books, etc. I must review them all! Apparently, I am incapable of doing it in a timely manner, though, so yeah, I need to work on that this year.
5. Limit the amount of books I accept for review. This one is SO tough because I want to read all the things! It's hard to resist shiny new releases, hopeful debut authors, awesome-sounding ARCs, fun blog tours, etc. I've gotten pickier over the years about what I accept, but I need to be even pickier so I don't go stark raving mad from the guilt I feel over not being able to review everything.
6. Clean up my feed reader. My feed reader is crammed full of book blogs (as well as food blogs, diet blogs, organization blogs, writing blogs, etc.). It's overwhelming and guilt-inducing to see all those unread posts just sitting there. A lot of the blogs have fallen by the wayside over the years, or my interest in them has waned, so I need to ditch the dead weight and focus on those that are still dynamic and helpful.
7. Find new blogs to read. I love reading book blogs and am always looking for new ones to follow. I prefer those whose authors share my reading interests, have a clean, upbeat writing style, and comment/follow back. This is one of the reasons I love TTT—it helps me find new blogs to enjoy.
8. Actually complete a reading challenge. I get so excited for the new reading challenges that come out every year, but then I never finish them. I'm doing some fun ones in 2018, so hopefully I'll actually have some success this time around. Wish me luck!
9. Catch up on all the series in which I am woefully behind. Yeah.
10. Keep enjoying doing what I love. By limiting the number of blog tours in which I participate and being very up front with authors about the amount of time (years!) it will likely take me to review their books, I've minimized (but not erased) a lot of the pressure in my blogging life. This makes the "job" much more pleasurable. I want to keep that feeling going this year. More than anything else, I want to make sure this gig remains a pleasurable labor of love. When it starts to feel like a stressful slog, that's when I'll know it's time to give it up.
What do you think of my resolutions/goals? What are yours? I'd truly love to know. Leave a comment on this post and I'll gladly return the favor.
Happy TTT!

How It All Shook Out: My Reading Year in Review
8:22 AM
My favorite thing about starting a new year is how fresh and hopeful everything feels. I really, really would have liked to start the 2015 blogging year by being all caught up on my reviews, but, well, yeah ... didn't happen. I'm still woefully behind (evidence: the last book I reviewed was one I read in August)! Shame on me. As far as blogging resolutions, I'm going for the same ole, same ole (as unattainable as they may be): catch up on reviews, keep up on reviews, and try to read 200 books this year. That's it. We'll see how I do.
As for my 2014 reading, here's how it shook out:
Total books read: 139 (3 more than last year)
Number of fiction books read: 130 (94%)
Number of non-fiction books read: 9 (6%)
Number of adult books read: 46 (33%)
Number of YA books read: 69 (50%)
Number of MG/chapter books read: 24 (17%)
Number of books read by female authors: 119 (86%)
Number of books read by male authors: 20 (14%)
Number of books read by LDS authors: 17 (20%)
Number of books read from personal collection: 33 (24%)
Number of books read, review copies: 58 (42%)
Number of books read from library: 48 (35%)
Reading challenges joined in 2014: 2
Reading challenges completed in 2014: 1 (In my defense, reading a book from each of the 50 states is not as easy as it sounds!)
In comparison with 2013, I read more non-fiction this year, more adult novels, more of my own books and more books from the library. Wow. Does that mean I've matured a little since last year? Surprisingly, I read fewer review books this year. Not by many, but still ... interesting.
How about you? How did your reading year go? What were your favorite reads of 2014? I love end-of-the-year lists/surveys, so let me know if you've got one up on your blog. I'd love to come take a look!
Thanks for all the love you've given my blog this year. It makes me so happy to read your comments, check out your book recommendations, and hop around to your blogs. Here's to another great year of bloggin' 'bout books!
P.S. Before I delete the list of books I read in 2014 from the bottom of my blog, I'm going to list them here. Asterisks denote favorites.

TTT: My Reading Resolution
1:00 AM
It's been a little while since I participated in my favorite bookish meme, Top Ten Tuesday, so I decided to start 2014 off right by joining in the fun. As always, this list-y event is hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish. Click on over there to get all the juicy details on how to get in on the good time!
This week's prompt is oh-so-appropriate for the New Year: Top Ten Goals/Resolutions for the New Year (Bookish, Non-Bookish, or a Combination of the Two)
So, I've realized over the years that I'm a much better goal setter than I am a goal reacher. Anyone relate? I love the excitement of thinking about ways I can improve myself and making grandiose plans of action guaranteed to change me into a smarter, kinder, thinner, more organized/spiritual/creative/successful, etc. person. It's just the follow-through with which I have a problem. Sticking with a goal is a cinch—for a day. The rest of the year? Not so much. Lately, I haven't even bothered making resolutions since I never keep them anyway. However, I do want to encourage myself to make some progress this year, so here's what I'm hoping to accomplish on the reading/blogging front:
1. Read 200 books before January 1, 2015. Yeah, yeah, I realize that finishing 200 books has been my goal for the last few years and that lately I've been falling very, very short of that number. But, that doesn't mean I can't do it in 2014. In fact, I think this is going to be my year. I've already read 2 1/2 books this month, so who knows? Anything can happen!
2. Nope, there's no Number 2. Or Number 3. Or Number 10. Other than catching up and keeping up with reviews, that's all the pressure I'm going to put on myself. That way, I can look back at 2014 and be proud of what I did accomplish while not beating myself up over what I didn't. Unless I don't reach 200 books. Then, I'll be in trouble ...
How about you? Are you making resolutions this year? If yes, please tell me how you keep yourself motivated to keep working on them when the going gets tough. I need all the help I can get! Oh, and which books do you think should be on my TBR list this year?
