Top Ten Tuesday: Vague Bookish Goals for 2026
9:57 AM
2026 has barely started and it's already speeding by! I'm still playing catch up after being gone for two weeks over the holidays, so this week's TTT prompt—Top Ten Goals for 2026 (bookish or otherwise)—is going to be a bit difficult as I haven't made any concrete New Year's resolutions yet, not for me personally or for my blog. I have some vague ideas of what I'd like to accomplish here at BBB. We'll see if I hit ten or not.
As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl.
Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2026
- Read 200 books—This has been my reading goal for the last five years or so. Most years I exceed it with no problem; we'll see what happens this year.
- Read more of my own books—My shelves are literally sagging under the weight of all the books I've piled on them. I have hundreds of paper review books and ones I've bought that are waiting to be read as well as a ton of e-ARCs. All my shelves need culling. Desperately.
- Post more reviews—I used to post almost every day here on BBB, but those days are loooonnnngggg in the past. These days, I pat myself on the back if I manage to do just a TTT post each week. I would like to post more reviews, maybe even set up a *gulp* schedule so that I publish at least one a week.
- Up my NetGalley ratio—This is a losing battle. My current ratio is an abysmal 5%. Even though it's so low, I'm still able to get most of the e-ARCs I want. Still, I feel some guilt about how many I've requested vs. how many I've actually read/reviewed.
- Complete all, or at least most, of the reading challenges I've taken on—I do reading challenges because they're fun. If I don't finish them, no biggie, but I do enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get from completing them.
- Reorganize my "owned" shelves—When I moved into this house about four years ago, I had purged so many books that I was able to organize all of my remaining volumes on my shelves in a lovely, uncluttered way. Now, I've got books stacked every which way. The genres are all mixed up. Some purging and rearranging is definitely in order.
- Listen to more audiobooks—My husband is all gung-ho about going on a cruise in May to see ruins in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. It's going to involve a lot of hiking, which means I need to get my butt (and the rest of me) in shape before then (and beyond then). My goal is really to exercise consistently, but I generally listen to audiobooks while doing so, so I bookified it to make it seem more doable and fun ;)
- Make progress in series that I'm reading—I love deep diving into characters and settings, so series always appeal to me—a little too much! I'm in the middle of a bunch of them, and I would like to move forward in at least some of them. I'm doing a series reading challenge, so that will help.
- Read more uplifting books—Mysteries and thrillers are my favorite, but they're always so depressing! I need to balance them out with books that are lighter and happier. I've been reading more cozy mysteries in the past couple years; I could stand to expand my horizons, though. What do you suggest? Who are your go-to authors for books that are mood-boosting, but not cheesy, didactic, or silly? Bonus points if they're well-written mysteries.
- Engage more with your blogs—I'm very consistent about visiting all the blogs that participate in TTT, but other than that, I haven't been great about stopping by and visiting all y'all. I'll try to do better in 2026!
There you go, ten reading/blogging goals I have for this new year. What about you? What are your resolutions for 2026? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

These are great goals. We have a few of the same ones. Good luck with them.
ReplyDeleteSame to you! We got this :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Yvonne!
I hope you get a lot of suggestions for uplifting books. I need more of them, too.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten some, and I'm so grateful! Who doesn't need more uplift in their lives? I definitely do.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lydia!
Great goals! I need to read more of my own books. My Netgalley is at 90% and I want to get it to 100% and then leave it for a bit to catch up 😂
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
That's impressive! Mine has never been anywhere near that high. I request way too many books, but they keep letting me, so is it REALLY my fault?? LOL
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Emily!
OOh nice set of goals! I have been trying to read more from my TBR in years past, but I still end up with new books too! Lol. I long to organize my books but alas I need to find a house first before I can do that.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals this year!
It's definitely difficult to organize your books when you don't have the room to do it properly. I have lots of bookshelf space, but I also have lots of books, so some decluttering/organizing is definitely in order. Good luck with the house. They're ridiculously expensive right now. Boo hoo.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Jessica
I’m with you about reading more uplit! So much of literary fiction is bleak and dismal.
ReplyDeleteI keep my NG percentage in the 90s. It dipped once as low as 50 something and I spent a year raising it and vowed never again!
Happy 2026 reading and good luck with your goals!📚🥂 ~Carol @ ReadingLadies
My go-to genres are mystery/thriller and historical fiction. The former is often bleak and dismal (no surprise) and the latter is not always as dark, but still often serious and heartbreaking. I need to alternate the darker reads with lighter, more hopeful ones just to keep myself on an even keel!
DeleteI'm so impressed with people who have high NG ratios. I review all the NG books I read, I just request way more than I actually read, hence the abysmal ratio...As long as I can still get most of the books I want from them, I don't worry about it too much.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Carol!
I love these goals! 200 is crazy, good luck! Reorganizing books is a very therapeutic activity too 🤣
ReplyDeleteI have been consistently surpassing my 200-book goal, so it's doable for me, although some years it's easier than others. Reorganizing is therapeutic fun for me, too!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Athena!
I stay away from Netgalley for a reason 😂
ReplyDeleteClearly, you're smarter than the rest of us! NG is soooo addicting...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Laurie!
I'm with you on the Netgalley ratio pain. I've been working to try to raise it for a while, but... it just seems to take forever, ahaha. I'm trying to work on it by staying on track with anything new I request, and occasionally getting round to stuff from my backlog, but it's slow. Still, I know I'd burn out on it if I tried to go harder.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all these goals!
Right? And, honestly, a good ratio doesn't seem to matter all that much. Not in my case at least. I don't get approved for ALL of the books I want, but I get approved for plenty, so I'm not going to stress too much about it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Nicky!
Fantastic list of goals, Susan! I really like your goal #2. I, too, want to read more of the books I already have.😀
ReplyDeleteIt's an ongoing problem with me! I own thousands of books that are just sitting on my shelf unread and I still insist on buying more and borrowing a bunch from the library. I'll never get it all balanced out, I'm afraid.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Nicole!
I'm glad to know Netgalley is so forgiving. I stay away from it in shame for months on end if I miss a deadline. XD
ReplyDeleteReally? I have never had anyone contact me about NG books I've requested and not reviewed. That's why I'm so laissez-faire about it. The only consequence I've seen is that I don't always get approved for every book I want, which is totally fine. I get approved for plenty.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Stephen!
Posting more reviews can always feel like such a challenge because they seem to have some of the lowest engagement, but they're also the biggest reason we blog! (Or at least why we started!) Even doing one a week might help, even if it's not a consistent day at first, just to help get you back in the swing of things. I also agree with engaging more with blogs! I did that a lot in my early blogging days, but I've been slacking since I came back to doing this lol
ReplyDeleteRight? I'm aiming for one a week and that really should not feel as daunting as it does. I do a quick review of every book I read on Goodreads, but I really do want to do more in-depth reviews of SOME of them on my blog. Thanks for the encouragement :)
DeleteThanks for popping in, Rayna!
These are all such good goals. I had no idea Netgalley would still give out books if it was that low. I gave up because I could never be consistent and my feedback ratio is 71! I felt guitly about that! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteAnyhow ... on the cozy mystery or mystery writers -- those are hit and miss for me. Sometimes I really like them and sometimes they are so cheesy. I like Ellie Alexander's for the most part. They are pretty light most of the time.
Anthony Horowitz has darker subjects but also some humor woven in.
I've been reading more gentle vintage fiction that simply tells simple stories about simple people in little towns, along with lighter mysteries. It seems to be all my brain can handle these days!
I hear you on getting to more blogs. I really enjoy it when I do so I want to do that more this year.
Even with a 5% ratio, I still get approved for MOST of the books I request on NG. I've been on NG for a long time, so I've posted a lot of reviews - I just request a lot more books than I actually read/review. I'm also on the "auto-approved" list for several publishers, so that helps, too.
DeleteI hear you on cozy mysteries. I'm also an Ellie Alexander fan, although I like some of her series more than others. I've never read Anthony Horowitz, although I have been meaning, too. I like the idea of "gentle" fiction - I find most of the historical mystery series I read to be of this sort. They're generally lighter and cleaner than contemporary ones.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lisa!
You managed to create some great goals for yourself. The Miss Phryne Fisher Murder series by Kerry Greenwood might interest you and they would count for the Cozy and Histfic challenge too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your #TTT
I am interested in reading the Phryne Fisher series. I'm really enjoying historical cozy mysteries lately, so I probably need to move this one up in the queue. Thanks for the rec!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by andc ommenting, Shelleyrae!
Good luck with all the reading goals, they sound good! I heard that NG was a dangerous rabbit hole to fall down. I wish you double luck with this one.
ReplyDeleteI've not yet finished reading it, but so far "Mrs. Mohr Goes Missing" is an engaging cosy mystery. It's set in late 19th Century Poland and feels a bit like a Jane Austen (for the social mores not romance) and Miss Marple mash up.
Ha ha. You heard correctly! NG is super addicting. It's tough not to just request every book on there.
DeleteI haven't heard of MRS. MOHR GOES MISSING. I'm going to check it out right now. Thanks for the rec!
Thanks for stopping in, Cat!
I love these goals! I also love reading cozy mysteries. I'm currently reading a series where the main character owns a cheese shop!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a good cozy, too. Are you talking about the Korina Moss series? I've read the first one, but that's it.
DeleteThanks for popping by, Shanna!
Oh, wow, your Netgalley ratio is giving me heart palpitations! Good luck with achieving your goals.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. It's pathetic, isn't it? It has improved over last year's 4%, though...
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Eva!
These are great goals! One of my favorite series is the Tannie Maria series from South African writer Sally Andrew. It makes me want to visit.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I've never heard of the Tannie Maria series. It sounds great. I just added the first one to my TBR list on Goodreads. Thanks for the rec!
DeleteThanks for popping by, Olivia!
I also want to read more uplifting books. I have DNFed several books this year---not because they were poorly written but because they were too bleak.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that! I'm definitely in the mood for cozy, happy books this year. I at least want to alternate them with the bleaker ones.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deb!
These all seem very doable! I'm always trying to improve my NetGalley ratio too, and I usually don't succeed, lol.
ReplyDeleteSame, but I can at least post reviews of the books I do read and maybe TRY to be a little more selective about what I request. We'll see how it goes.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Tammy!
Rearranging bookshelves is always a fun time! One of my unofficial goals for this year is to move into a flat where I can fit bookshelves so that I can buy some shelves and rescue my books from the boxes they've been living in for the past 6 years!
ReplyDeleteOh, those poor books! I hope you can meet that goal this year. You'll love coming home when you can see all your books living happily on shelves :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Keira!
1. I love your blog! I find it encouraging and inspirational.
ReplyDelete2. Reorganize my "owned" shelves - 😂 - about six years ago we reoranized our shelves by theme and included our small collection of vinyl records with our books. coolest thing we've ever done. Now, I have no idea what is going on over there.
What a kind thing to say! I do try to keep BBB a positive and happy place to hang out. I'm glad you feel that here :)
DeleteIt's amazing how quickly bookshelves get unorganized, isn't it? My problem is that I've acquired too many books over the past couple of years and there's no room to put them on their proper shelves (mine are arranged by genre), so they just end up everywhere. I need to both cull my collection and reorganize it this year. It's getting VERY out of hand!
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Rebecca!
wow, 0ver 200 books, you are amazing! And if you add more audiobooks to that, it's going to explode! Good luck on all your goals
ReplyDeleteWell, I read fast, I don't have a job, I don't have small kids to take care of anymore, I rarely watch tv, and I only have a couple other hobbies besides reading, so 200 books is doable for me. I barely made it to 200 in 2025, though, so we'll see how I do in 2026.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Emma!
I don't think I've EVER managed daily posting, but at one point I was doing 4 a week I think. Like you say though, LONG past. I'd like to at least get one review up along with my TTT.
ReplyDeleteDaily posting is too much for me, and honestly, it's too much for me to keep up with on other people's blogs, too. A couple times a week is all (and sometimes more) than I can handle, and that's okay. I never want blogging to feel like a chore.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Louise!
You've got some great goals, but we both know that it's OK if you don't get to all the books. Ha! I will encourage you to do audiobooks as you are working on your movement goals. That has been very, very helpful for me, especially when I am doing my daily walks. I get lost in the book and just keep going. Take care!! Always nice to see whatever you'd like to share with us, Susan.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! If I accomplish none of these goals this year, it will be totally fine.
DeleteAudiobooks have helped me with walking in the past as well. I'm much more motivated to go if it means listening to a good book - and if it's REALLY good, I might just go the extra mile to keep listening!
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, my friend!
I need to read more of my own books too! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's like as soon as I put a book on my shelf it's out of sight, out of mind...LOL
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lauren!
Love your vague goals!! :) I need to read more of my own books too (don't we all?), and I'd love to dedicate time this year to reorganizing my physical book shelves. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy organizing my bookshelves, so this goal *should* be an easy one to accomplish. We'll see how it goes.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lisa!
Everyone is committing to reading more of the books they already own instead of ARCs, and I'm totally joining this trend. I've read only new releases this month, and it's becoming unsustainable. I need to stop ignoring the books that are already on my shelves!
ReplyDeleteRight? It's like as soon as I put a book on my shelf, it completely disappears from my memory. There are some really great-sounding books hiding in there. I need to dig them out, read them, and donate them. Good luck to both of us on this one!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Ethan!
You have a lot of great goals, we share some of them. Good luck with all of these, you can do it!! Have you read The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion? They do have a hint of mystery in them and they are so good! Occasionally silly, but not in a bad way.
ReplyDeleteI've read the first Emma Lion book. I didn't LOVE it, but I enjoyed it. People tell me the series gets better as it goes, so I definitely need to continue with it. Thanks for the rec!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Cindy!
I am so impressed with how many books you read! It is one of my goals to read more this year too. Don't think I will make it to 200 books though haha! That is amazing
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm at a place in my life where I can read all day if I really want to (and sometimes I do). Like I said above, I also read fast, don't have a job, don't have little kids anymore, don't watch tv, and don't have many other hobbies, so 200 is usually very doable for me.
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Jackie!
All the best with your goals. Yes I combine walking and listening too for same reason, although no travel! I don't like too many thrillers and mysteries, I keep myself on good romance books that are uplifting - like Katherine Center.
ReplyDeleteI was huffing and puffing a lot on our last trip, which included A LOT of walking. I learned my lesson! Hopefully, I will be in a lot better shape by the time we go on our next adventure.
DeleteRomance is not a genre I read often, but I do really like Center's books. I need to read more of them. Thanks for the rec!
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Kathryn!
That's a great lists, some of which I'm already attempting, but eh, not the 200+ reads. Yikes. When do you sleep? But seriously, I want more uplifting reads this year as well.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I actually sleep a lot, but as I've said, I'm at a place in my life where I can read (or sleep) all day if I want to. I read fast, I don't have a job, I don't have little kids to take care of anymore, I don't watch tv, and I don't have many other hobbies. I also listen to audiobooks while I drive, do housework, and exercise. My cheerleader daughter finds it embarrassing, but I also bring a book with me to all her games (there are at least two a week and I go to all of them). When the games get boring, I read, and only look up when she's doing a cheer :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Alex!
I do love a good book reorganisation, that might end up on my list of things to do for this year as well! Good luck with all your goals.
ReplyDeleteSame! That's my idea of fun :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Bree!
These are great goals! Have you read anything by Fredrik Backman? He's one of my favorite authors, and I thought of him when you mentioned uplifting books. Which is funny, because all of his books are somewhat sad, but they're also full of hope, and quite funny at points too!
ReplyDelete
