Top Ten Tuesday: Top 25 for 200 in 2022, Part 2
1:21 PM
Only 12 sleeps left until the Big Day? How is that possible? Ack! I still haven't finished decorating, haven't even started sending out my Christmas cards, have only bought a few gifts, and...yeah. I'm sure I will get everything done by Christmas, but I'm stressing a bit over here. I'm also lagging behind in my reading. If I hope to reach my goal of reading 200 books by the end of the year, I better hurry it up. I'm at 180 right now. I'm almost finished with my main read, but that still leaves 19 to go. We'll see how I do.
Seasonal reading lists are my favorite, so I'm loving today's TTT topic: Top Ten Books On My Winter 2022-2023 TBR List. In fact, I started my list last week with this post listing 12 of the 25 I planned to read to complete my goal. Since then, I have read three of them and DNF'd one. Today, I'm going to give you 13 more that I'm hoping to read in the next few weeks.
I'd love to see what's on your Winter TBR list. If you want to join in the TTT fun (and you do!), click on over to That Artsy Reader Girl for all the deets.
Top Twenty-Five Books I'm Going to Read to Meet My 2022 Reading Goal, Part Two
1. How to Fake An Irish Wake by Eliza Watson—This is my current paper read. It's a fun cozy mystery set in Ireland and featuring a genealogical mystery: the search for a man's biological father in a small Irish town. I've only got about 50 pages to go and I'm not sure "whodunit" yet.
2. The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell—I started this mystery on audio yesterday. It concerns the mysterious disappearance of two teenage parents from a party at a house called Dark Place. Two years later, a mystery novelist moves into a cottage near the now abandoned home and gets embroiled in the cold case. I'm enjoying the read so far.
3. The Gods of Green County by Mary Elizabeth Pope—I mentioned this novel in a TTT list a couple weeks ago. I need to read a book set in Arkansas for a reading challenge and this one sounds intriguing. It's about a woman who's taking on the powers that be in her small town to find out what really caused her brother's suspicious death. Neither of my local libraries had a copy of the book, so I went ahead and bought it. I'm planning to read it this week.
4. All the Lost Places by Amanda Dykes—Bethany House sent me a copy of this book to review. It's gotten great buzz, so I'm excited. It's set in Venice and concerns an abandoned baby who is found floating in the canals. Decades later, a translator may be the one who solves the mystery of the child's true origin.
5. The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes—I've enjoyed this YA Knives Out-like series. This is the last book in the series and I'm excited to see how the story ends.
6. Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan—Ever since it came out last year, I've been wanting to read this story about a woman whose dying brother's wish is to know the truth about Narnia. When his sister timidly approaches C.S. Lewis, she has no idea that their encounters will change all of their lives. Sounds like a heartwarming holiday read!
7. Willis Wilbur Wows the World by Lindsey Leavitt—Leavitt's books are always fun. I'm sure this one will be no exception. It's about an enterprising 9-year-old who decides his life's true calling is to become the neighborhood life coach. Hilarity ensues.
8. The Ghost of Wyvern Lake by Sheila A. Nielson—This is a Halloween story, not a Christmas one, but it sounds fun so I'm going for it. When the fish in Wyvern Lake start dying of a mysterious illness, the owner drains the water hole only to uncover an old church with a very angry ghost inside. It's up to a group of young ghost hunters to free their town of a malevolent entity.
9. Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister—I'm intrigued by this book's premise. It's about a mother who is shocked and devastated when she witnesses her 17-year-old son killing a stranger. The next morning, she's stunned all over again when she discovers that it's not tomorrow but yesterday. Time is moving backwards, a miraculous gift she's been given to save her boy from committing a horrendous act.
10. Cece Rios and the King of Fears by Kaela Rivera—The second book in a MG series based on Mexican folklore, this one features a young bruja who must take on a powerful criatura in order to save her sister's soul.
11. Things We Didn't Say by Amy Lynn Green—I enjoyed the one book I've read by Green and I'm really looking forward to her newest, which just came out. This one is actually her 2020 debut. It concerns a young woman who is studying linguistics at the University of Minnesota. When she's asked by the Army to serve as a translater at a nearby German POW camp, she does it only reluctantly. Her service there, as well as her growing compassion for the prisoners, makes her an enemy in the surrounding town. When she finds herself falling for one of the inmates, she must question her own traitorous heart.
12. The Monsters We Defy by Leslye Penelope—This historical fantasy sounds fun. It's about a woman who can commune with spirits and the debt she owes to a powerful entity. In order to free herself from its clutches, she must perform a daring heist that will no doubt lead her into all kinds of trouble.
13. Death Al Dente by Leslie Budewitz—I still need to read a book set in Montana and this cozy mystery sounds fun. It concerns a woman who turns her family's 100-year-old general store into a boutique selling local delicacies. When a former employee turns up dead, she has to channel her inner Nancy Drew to save herself and her store from suspicion.
There you go, thirteen books I'm planning to read before the year ends. Have you read any of them? What's on your Winter TBR list? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT!

Once Upon a Wardrobe was a good read. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMy post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-winter-2022-2023-to-read-list/
I'm glad you liked it. I hope I do, too :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lydia!
These sound great! I haven't read any yet, but I've added a few to my TBR now. (The Monsters We Defy sounds particularly good.)
ReplyDeleteMy Winter TBR has a lot of seasonal reads on it, but the two that have priority for me right now are re-reads: my annual Christmas Carol re-read, plus Connie Willis' Take a Look at the Five and Ten. I should be able to finish them both in the next 12 days. (As long as I actually, you know, START to read them...)
My TTT: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2022/12/13/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-winter-2022-2023-to-read-list/
I listened to A CHRISTMAS CAROL the other day. It's always fun to revisit the story. I hope you get to it. I haven't read the Willis book. I might have to check it out.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Nicole!
How about a short story or novella? Kate Quinn has a new short story out (free on A axon Prime) called Signal Moon and it’s a sweet, interesting story! Also, the novella Small Things Like These is very special and a quick read! Cheering you on to 200! ~Carol @ Reading Ladies
ReplyDeleteGood idea! The only novella I've read this year is A CHRISTMAS CAROL. I should definitely check out the ones you mentioned. Thanks for the recs.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Carol!
I loved The Monsters We Defy!! It was such a great read. I still need to read Final Gambit too!
ReplyDeleteTHE MONSTERS WE DEFY sounds so unique and compelling. I'm excited for it. THE FINAL GAMBIT will also be a fun one, I'm sure. I hope we both enjoy it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Leslie!
I LOVED Things We Didn't Say, it was SO good! I also have Amanda Dykes book to read! When I start feeling a little stressed about getting my goals I switch to the shorter books ;) Maybe that will help. I should reach my goal of 200, but I will not complete the states challenge this year, I am way too far behind to catch up.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of middle grade books in the last couple months in preparation for judging book awards. That definitely helps boost my reading stats! I don't know if I'm going to make it to 200, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I hope you reach yours as well.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenitng, Cindy!
Susan, yes, all we can do is try!!
DeleteI highly recommend any Patti Callahan book. This one is good but not her best. I also read any reviewed the Amanda Dykes book, it's pretty deep and thought provoking. Very good. I haven't read any by Amy Green yet, she's put them out so quickly and I have heard a lot of good feedback about them. Enjoy your great reads and I'm not done Christmas shopping yet either and have quite a few Christmas books left to read, hey there's always next year right? Lol
ReplyDeleteI've heard only good things about the Dykes book, so I'm really excited to read it. Hopefully, I'll get to it in the next couple weeks. We'll see. I really liked THE LINES BETWEEN US by Amy Lynn Green so I'm excited to read her others as well.
DeleteNext year, I'm going to be much more organized for Christmas, I swear!
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deanne!
The Monsters We Defy sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it? It definitely sounds unique and intriguing.
DeleteThanks for popping by, Diana!
A Good mix of books Susan. I have read three of these. I am in the minority, I really didn't like Once Upon a Wardrobe, but I hope you like it. I am also surprised that Christmas is only twelve days away. Fortunately I am a bit better prepared, I just have my cards to send out. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI got most of my Christmas cards sent out today, so I'm feeling a *little* more together. LOL.
DeleteIt does seem like most people liked ONCE UPON A WARDROBE. I didn't super love the last book I read by the author, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll like this one.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Carla!
I'm sending you good reading vibes! I hope you're able to meet your goad. I loved All the Lost Places, and I hope you do too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I need them :) I've still got 16 books to read and exactly that many days left in the year. A book a day. Hmmm...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Wendy!
Wrong Place, Wrong Time sounds interesting. Hope you make your challenge. Novellas or short stories probably would help you make it. I'm doing a few to make my audio challenge. Good luck and thanks for visiting my TTT! :)
ReplyDeleteI generally like Lisa Jewell books so hope that one is good. And that Dykes book is everywhere recently - I'm feeling like I really need to read that one! Good luck on your challenges and have a great reading week.
ReplyDeleteTerrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
I'm just about finished with the Jewell book. It's compelling enough that I haven't DNF'd it yet, but I'm also not loving it. The characters aren't very likable, it's overly long and fairly predictable, and it's also just super depressing. I don't know that I'll read another by this author. What's your favorite by her?
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Terrie!
I've read a few that are on this list and enjoyed all of them. Death al Dente is a fun mystery and I have decided I pretty much love anything by Lisa Jewell. Once Upon a Wardrobe was a favorite and one of the few books that I want a permanent copy of. I was a bit worried because the book involves a very ill child and I have a very ill child but it was handled beautifully. I hope you enjoy all of these!
ReplyDeleteLike I said above, I'm not loving the Jewell book for a number of reasons. I don't know if I'll read her again. I'm going to pick up DEATH AL DENTE from the library tomorrow. It just sounds fun. I've had a copy of ONCE UPON A WARDROBE for awhile now, but I just haven't gotten around to reading it. Soon, I hope. I'm glad it handles the terminal illness well. That would definitely be difficult to read about for someone in your situation.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Katherine!
I hope you reach your target. Thanks for looking at my list!
ReplyDeleteMe too. It's looking a little unlikely, but who knows? Maybe I'll surprise myself :)
DeleteThanks for popping in, Yvonne!
Good luck with finishing the last books for this year, I know I won't be even close to my goal. But that's alright. I haven't decorated anything, either. But that's also alright. Because, you know what? My sons are going to come soon and stay for a whole week to spend Christmas with us. And that's the most important part for me.
ReplyDeleteHave a good time.
I'm so glad you'll have your sons at home for Christmas. That's wonderful! Nothing better.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Marianne!
I really love the sound of the Irish Wake book! I might get that. Yes, it's so busy at the moment but I absolutely love spending what spare time I get planning my books and challenges for 2023. I make lists and I shift books and I create collections on my Kindle Fire. It's such fun.
ReplyDeleteHOW TO FAKE AN IRISH WAKE is an okay read. It's entertaining, even if it's a bit ridiculous.
DeleteI always love planning my reading and challenges for the upcoming year as well. So much possibility!
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Cath!
The Jennifer Lynn Barnes series sounds interesting! I'll have to look into the first book.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty fun. I enjoyed the first book, but got quite annoyed with the second. I'm hoping the final book is as good as the first.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Louise!
Those look like good reads! I'm currently reading All the Lost Places and I've read Things We Didn't Say. I hope you enjoy them all!
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping I get to both of these books before the end of the year, but I don't know if it will happen or not. Soon, though!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Danielle!
#6 - I have seen this book a lot. I really do like the idea of the book but I don't think I'll read it, though I'm very fond of the Naria series.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. Have a lovely day.
It does sound good and I hope I can get to it soon. Narnia is the best!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lissa!
Once Upon a Wardrobe sounds like it could be really good! I remember seeing some advance promos for it, but haven't heard anything since. Hope you enjoy all of these!
ReplyDeleteIt was hyped up a lot when it first came out, but you're right, I haven't seen much about it lately. I still want to read it, though. Hopefully, it's good :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lisa!
So many great books! I'm really looking forward to All the Lost Places. Love her books. :D
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all of these! How to Fake an Irish Wake sounds like a lot of fun! I'm also intrigued by the Lisa Jewell (I have yet to read any of her books) and Wrong Place Wrong Time... and Things We Didn't Say. Yep, just added a few to the Goodreads. Enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteHOW TO FAKE AN IRISH WAKE was okay. THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED was compelling, but I didn't love it. I really liked WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME. I haven't read THINGS WE DIDN'T SAY yet, but I predict I'm going to love it!
DeleteThanks for popping in, Hannah!
So many of these sound really good, and I've read The Monsters We Defy, which was fabulous. I hope you enjoy them as you read, and that you hit your goal (as well as getting to Christmas as stress-free as possible).
ReplyDeleteOh, good! THE MONSTERS WE DEFY sounds unique and fun. I'm excited for it.
DeleteA stress-free Christmas sounds perfect. I'm a lot more prepared now that I've finished my Christmas cards, bought presents, and gotten things organized. It should be a fun time spend with family and friends.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Leah!
I can't believe it's now down to 11 days! I am still remembering things I need to buy! Yikes! I hope you get to read all of these soon.
ReplyDeleteRight? I thought I was all done with gift buying and then I realized...oh yeah, my parents! Oops. I'm sure I'll realize more things I've forgotten throughout this week. I'm NEVER totally prepared. LOL.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deanna!
All the Lost Places is one I really want to read, too. So many good books on your list! Happy reading. :D
ReplyDeleteI've heard nothing but good things about ALL THE LOST PLACES, so I'm excited for it. I have a copy on my shelves - I just need to make the time to actually read it! Hopefully I'll get to it before the new year, but who knows?
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lark!
Interesting looking books. I have had my eye on Wrong Place Wrong Time for a while now.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog
I really liked WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME. I zoomed through it in a day because it was so compelling. It gets a little predictable, but still, I enjoyed it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Emily!
The Inheritance Game has been on my TBR for a while. I need to read that. Good luck with your goal!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty fun! I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Kami!
I've become quite a fan of Lisa Jewell the last few years.
ReplyDeleteI didn't end up loving THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED. What's your favorite Jewell book? I might be willing to try another by her...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Greg!
