2016: My Year in Books
10:04 AM
Is anyone else in denial that it's 2016 already? 2016! Wow.
First of all, Happy New Year to you! Thank you so much for supporting my blog in 2015. I appreciate every follower, every comment, every interaction that makes this book blogging gig so enjoyable. There will be more reviews, giveaways, and fun in 2016, so please stick around!
As you probably guessed, I didn't get around to reviewing all the books I read in 2015 before the year slipped away. Hopefully, I can get caught up this month. I'm only 28 or so behind ... easy cheesy.
I did read a lot in 2015, even if I slacked on reviewing. Here's how my reading year looked:
Total books read: 149 (10 more than last year)
Number of fiction books read: 140 (95%)
Number of non-fiction books read: 8 (5%)
Number of adult books read: 86 (58%)
Number of YA books read: 43 (29%)
Number of MG/chapter books read: 20 (13%)
Number of books read by female authors: 120 (81%)
Number of books read by male authors: 28 (19%)
Number of books read by LDS authors: 32 (22%)
Number of books read from personal collection: 26 (18%)
Number of books read, review copies: 73 (49%)
Number of books read from library: 52 (35%)
Reading challenges joined in 2015: 3
Reading challenges completed in 2015: 0
Interestingly enough, I read 40 more adult books and 26 fewer YA books this year than I did last year. Does that mean I'm maturing? I also read more review and library books, less from my own collection. As far as fiction vs. non-fiction, the ratio hasn't changed much over the years. Yes, I need to read more non-fiction, but will I? Probably not. Female authors I read also greatly outnumber male authors, as per usual. I should probably try harder to balance that statistic out. Overall, the only thing about this year's numbers that really surprises me is how much I detoured away from YA books in comparison to other years. I guess that what happens when you turn 40?
As I do every year, I'm going to list the books I read this year at the bottom of this post, more for my records than anything else. Favorites are marked by an asterisk.
So, how was your year in books? Did you meet any goals you set last year? Read anything super awesome? I'd love to hear about it.
Best wishes for an amazing 2016!

I love seeing everyone's stats! Great job on your amount read. I need to check out some of your favorites I haven't read yet. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI know, I love looking at everyone else's stats, too. So interesting.
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well!
You are a reading machine, Susan! I wish you a happy, healthy, wonderful 2016. With all the books. And fun. Have I told you lately that I love your blog and love hearing about your reading? Well, I do. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks! I love your blog as well and always get great recommendations from it. I'm so glad you're back from your break!
DeleteThat's a ton of books! I combed through your favorites and added a bunch to my wish list, because tis the season for absurdly large wish lists, right? LOL. I'm like you, many more female authors than male and way more fiction than non-fiction in my books read this year. One year I'll find balance. Maybe. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only unbalanced book blogger out there :)
DeleteWow, that's quite a list. I was delighted to accomplish my goal of 50 books! Gotta balance the reading and sewing. I think my biggest thrill was discovering Ann Patchett and I LOVED Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson. Haven't read an Atkinson book I haven't liked.
ReplyDeletePam
I need to do a better job balancing reading and everything else. I have a lovely (and HUGE) family tree cross-stitch that I started almost 10 years ago that I'd like to finish one of these days! You and your blog always inspire me to work on it :)
DeleteWow! You read so much! I wish I could read that much. I thought I did awesome with 50 books this year, lol.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are amazing! I love looking at your list, it makes me want to start reading more books :)
ReplyDeleteGreat year for you. I always think I should read more non fiction too, but it doesn't happen. I'd like to increase the number of classics I read too. Maybe after I retire....I just want to read the stuff the kids are reading. Congrats!
ReplyDelete95% fiction! I love it. Honestly I didn't get into reading non fiction until I started doing audiobooks. I can't read non fiction easily but I find it fun to listen to for some reason
