TTT: My Shelf of Shame
1:00 AM
So, Tuesday's fast becoming my favorite day here on ye olde blog. Top Ten Tuesday—a list-y book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish—is just too fun. I'm loving being part of it every week. It's been fun to read everyone's responses to the weekly question and, of course, to find even more wonderful book blogs to enjoy. Love it, love it, love it!
Today's topic is another one about which I could go on and on and on, so be glad I'm limited to talking about only the Top Ten Books I HAD to Buy But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf Unread. Here they are (in no particular order):
1. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin -- I was super excited when I found a copy of this one hidden among some random non-fiction titles at Border's final clearance sale. Since the price was good, I snatched it up with plans to read it right away. Um, yeah. It's still gathering dust on my bookshelf so many months (years?) later.
2. The Selection by Kiera Cass -- The premise of this one sounded intriguing, so I pre-ordered it from Amazon. I did peek at the first few pages, but other than that, I haven't read a word of it.
3. The House at Riverton by Kate Morton -- Tons of people have recommended this author and this book, specifically, to me and yet, it sits.
4. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick -- I really am going to read this one. Eventually ...
5. Everneath by Brodi Ashton -- I've been reading Brodi's blog for ages and even had dinner with her a few years ago. I love her, I just haven't read her books yet.
6. Possession by Elana Johnson -- Ditto with Elana. I've met her several times and have taken some excellent writing classes from her. I just have yet to actually read anything she's written (besides handouts and blog posts, of course).
7. The Shining by Stephen King -- In my defense, I have read this lengthy horror novel once. But, it was a very, very long time ago (like back when I was way too young to be reading King at all). Last Halloween, I got a hankering for a re-read, debated between borrowing the book from the library and buying it, decided to purchase the Kindle version, then ... let it sit. Yeah. It's a trend with me.
8. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins -- I've heard nothing but good things about this one, so why does it still linger on my shelf unread? Couldn't tell ya, but it does.
9. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith -- Ditto #8
10. Paper Towns by John Green -- After reading The Fault in Our Stars, I knew I needed to read everything Green had ever written. Someone suggested starting with Paper Towns, so I clicked right on over to Amazon and bought myself a copy. Have I read it yet? I plead the Fifth.
Clearly, the problem here has nothing to do with my impulsive book-buying tendencies. Really, it doesn't. It truly is more of a too-many-books-too-little-time-to-read-them kind of thing. That being said, where do you think I should start with this list? Have you read any of them? Which are your favorites? And, most importantly, what's on your list? I'd love to know!

That is a great list of books ... I do not know what to advice you to start with though. I would pick probably Kate Morton's The House at Riverton or Paper Towns. But there are more great books. Good luck with reading them all.
ReplyDeleteAll those sound good! I tend to impulse buy in hoardes as well.. But something happened about a month ago.. I ran out of books.. I scoured my shelfs and realized I did something impossible.. I actually read through them.. I am talking 3 huge bookcase full.. Luckily I sent a rescue cry out and 2 friends dropped 10 books in my lap :) And i have found the last couple weeks are super too many awesome books too little time
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the books on your list either, but they sound good! I've read good things about Anna and the French Kiss and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight so I'd probably start there.
ReplyDeleteYou need to read Anna now! So many swoons :)
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH Anna!!!! Read that one first :) I really enjoyed Statistical too!
ReplyDeleteI've always meant to look into Possession and really, no one can blame you about A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones! Those are massive books and you've got to be ready for them!
Very fun list!
Hush, Hush and The Statistical Probability of Love are both books I own, but I haven't read yet. I hope to get to them *soon*. Okay, now let's have a little discussion here: OMG YOU HAVE TO READ PAPER TOWNS LIKE HURRY UP AND DO IT! I'm a little biased here but, in my opinion, John Green can do no wrong and Paper Towns is one of my all time favorites. Anna and the French Kiss is also a fantastic read if you're looking for something a bit lighter.
ReplyDeleteYou HAVE to read The Selecton and Anna and the French Kiss. I LOVED both of those books.
ReplyDeleteI still have to read Statistical Probability, Everneath, and Paper Towns. All of these are supposed to be great...but remain on my TBR list as well.
Oh goodness, ASOIAF... I read and adored the first four books, got the fifth the *day* it came out.... and then sat on it for almost seven months before reading it. They're intimidating bricks of text.
ReplyDeleteYou have some really great titles on your list, books I have simply loved. It is so hard someimes to read everything we want, since there are so many amazing books. Great list.
ReplyDeleteEm @ A Beautiful Madness
My Top Ten
There are some awesome titles on here. Some of those books I am also guilty of letting go unread. I would say that The Selection was amazing. You should really read that! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteDeidra @ Simply Books.
Anna and the French Kiss is an immediate read! GO READ IT NOW!
ReplyDeleteI should have put the Game of Throne series on my list, since I HAVE THE WHOLE SET unread, but it wasn't one of the first 10 books (of a million) I laid eyes on when making my list.
I read The Selection b/c The Bachelor's finale was a week ago...hahahaha. No, really. I then did a blog post of the novel using Bachelor gifs.
::SIGH:: Why can't the day be longer?
Axie @ Books are Bread
Hush, Hush was great when paranormal was in it's prime and fallen angels weren't all over the place. But if you haven't already started it, it might be a disappointment. I'm not saying don't give it a shot, because I love it! I'm just saying, don't let the hype affect you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by the blog! :)
I am such an impulsive book buyer! And now I feel like I need to snag some that are on your list! This is why my Kindle is the death of me- way to easy to buy with it!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!! I haven't read any of them but as a fellow John Green fan, I'd start with Paper Towns. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT! :)
Nikki @ There were books involved...
I need to read something from Kate Morton. Haven't yet, but need to. Loved Stat Prob. and the series from GRRM. Great books!
ReplyDeleteI need to get to Anna and the French Kiss, everything else by John Green and MAYBE (if I ever magick new time into my days) the Becca Fitzpatrick series... maybe. Great list!
Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten!
Jessie Marie @ The Daily Bookmark
I probably started reading King much too early too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I need to read Anna too!
ReplyDeleteEverneath, The Statistical Probability and Paper Towns are all great reads!
I HAVE read some of these and some are on my list of shame too! :) Paper Towns, Anna and Everneath. Read them!
ReplyDeleteI keep feeling like I must have read Paper Towns before, but when reading the summary on Goodreads none of it sounds familiar so maybe I haven't. Huh, either way, I do love me some John Green. And Hush, Hush is of course on my list as well. We'll get it to eventually, right? Somedayyyy...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog :)
Oh, you def need to read Perkins and Smith soon! I also I have The Shining somewhere in my TBR pile too, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I've actually read only Anna & The Statistical... and I'm finally going through John Green's books, although I still haven't read Paper Towns. The rest on your list I want to read, too :)
ReplyDeleteI really love the title of this post. I loved A Song of Ice and Fire, it took a while to get through though. I wasn't crazy about Hush, Hush so I haven't finished the series yet. I have Everneath and The Statistical Probability of Love on my Nook right now and keep meaning to get to those too. I agree, there just isn't enough time.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Hush, Hush quite a bit and I wasn't sure if I would because I fell in love with another angel series Fallen, which I still rank above Hush, Hush but it's worth the read in my opinion. I just need to break down and finish the series! lol Hope you get to these one day!!
ReplyDeleteSheri @ Perks of Being a Bookworm
The Selection does not start off very strong in my opinion, but it does not take very long for it to take off. I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDelete- Amy, odetojoandkatniss.wordpress.com
I love you! You just make me feel better and smile more every time I read your posts.....
ReplyDeleteI have GOT to introduce you to your sister-shelves! They live at my house and I call them my flood-books! You know, in case of a "flood" I have plenty of books ready. No, no, maybe they are my year's supply....no, no, they are my living room and bedroom insulation...no, no, they are...What the heck. They are my to-be-read shelves and I love them. Your blog always adds more titles to MY shelves of shame and I am proud to say it!
Now, I will go look at them all and think of you!
The Selection: Didn't love it at first, but over time it grew on me and I fell in love. Hush, Hush: Unhappy with the series ending, but a really good book. I wasn't a fan of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, but OHMYGOSH Anna and the French Kiss! Read that one right now! I LOVE that book! Thanks for sharing and stopping by!
ReplyDeleteRachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf
P.S. Re: Your comment on my blog. I agree. For a cancer book, The Fault in Our Stars was upbeat/light, but STILL tragic and the cause of a million billion tears. (:
Wow! You have some great books on this list! I loved The Selection and Anna and the French. Hope you get to those soon!! Thanks for checking out my post!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I read the Selection a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. What a neat idea! Everneath was good, and I have Anna and the French Kiss sitting on my shelf from the library.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros
Thanks for stopping by my TTT. Most of the ones on your list are on my TBR list as well!
ReplyDeleteSandy @ Somewhere Only We Know
Boy, I'm glad I'm not the only one who buys more books than she can read -- and lets books sit around unread for (mumble-mumble-unspecified-length-of-time.) As for the specific books on your shelf, I haven't read any of them, but I've heard good things about a lot of them, so there's probably no bad choice.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by The Bookwyrm’s Hoard earlier today!
the A Song of Ice and Fire series is so good! I enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss as well. Paper Towns... I hated (I did like The Fault in our Stars)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Anna! Read Anna! And I totally agree with you about the too little time being the real culprit here.
ReplyDeleteI just started A Song of Ice and Fire. It is going to take a long time to get through the series!
ReplyDeleteA song of Ice and Fire is really something I should be giving a go too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read most if those either but funnily enough most are on my wish list and I will get to them sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteLots of good ones there, enjoy!
Shelf of Shame - what a great name! Shams sums up how I often feel when I cruise past the shelves. But they also bring me a lot of joy
ReplyDelete- I seem to like knowing they are there.
Anna is cute and sweet and took me a very short time to read.
ReplyDeleteA Song of Fire and Ice, Hush Hush, The Selection are all books I own and need to read... eventually. I only bought the Selection two weeks ago. I think it's one of those books where I really need to be in the mood - much like how I need to be when I watch the Bachelor :P
Good luck tackling some of the books on your list and hope you had a happy TTTuesday. (Blogging wise Tuesdays are one of my favourite days too!)
Just know that you are not alone :) I have a bookcase and 3 bins that hold my "Shelf of Shame".
ReplyDeleteYou must read Paper Towns, I loved it :3 and i have A Song of Ice and Fire as well but I haven't been able to read it...yet! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to read Anna and the French Kiss and The House of Riverton as well. I love the Top Ten Tuesday meme and I have yet to write a list for it!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Selection and Paper Towns. I definitely agree that Paper Towns is the next Green book you should read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT!
Ashling @ Reading, Writing, & Anything but Arithmetic
You must read Anna and the French Kiss! And Paper Towns! Both are AWESOME! I bought the first three books in the Hush Hush series, but STILL haven't read it. Though I am reading the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series now ... it's a beast! But I'm glad I'm finally reading it. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
I'll add myself to that list of people to recommend you reading The House at Riverton. I loved it. Enjoy your reading list.
ReplyDeleteIf you want, do check out my review on Kate Morton books :)
I'm going to add myself to the list of people who recommend that you must read The House at Riverton :)
ReplyDelete'My Shelf of Shame' <-- LOL I love that!
ReplyDeleteHush, Hush seems to be a love them/hate them series but I love them. Anna and the French Kiss and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight are both ones I adore! I hope you get to discover them soon! :)
Thanks for stopping by my post!
~Sara @ Forever 17 Books
Ooh ambitious with George R.R. Martin! I'm curious about them but I couldn't really get into the show... and the large volumes of each book in the series is a bit daunting.... :*)
ReplyDeleteThe Shining is a good one! Hope you get to some of these soon!
Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier this week!
