Top Ten Tuesday: My Fall TBR List, Part One
1:27 PM
Since I'm not feeling very inspired by today's TTT topic—Top Ten Books With Numbers in the Titles—I'm going to skip ahead to next week's, which is all about what's on my Fall TBR list. I'm still hoping to read at least 55 books before the year ends, so I'll give you ten potential reads this week and ten next week. I'll miss the next two weeks after that because I'll be in...drumroll, please...Europe! We're heading out soon for our long-awaited sightseeing/family history trip to the U.K. and France. My ancestors emigrated from England, Wales, and Scotland in the 1800s and I, personally, have never been back. I'm excited to be able to finally see their homelands for myself.
If you want to join in the TTT fun (and you do!), click on over to That Artsy Reader Girl for all the details.
Top Ten Books on My Fall 2021 TBR List
1. Survive the Night by Riley Sager—I've mentioned this one a few times already because I'm so excited to read Sager's newest thriller about a ride-share road trip gone wrong. I'm finally at the top of the library's queue, so I should have this one in my hot little hands within the next week or so.
2. Beyond the Mapped Stars by Rosalyn Eves—I bought a copy of this MG historical set in 1878, which is about a teen girl who's caught between the future she wants as an astronomer and the one she's expected to lead as a proper Mormon girl, soon to be married off despite her young age.
3. Where Echoes Lie by Shannon Schuren (available October 19, 2021)—This eerie YA thriller sounds like the perfect read for Halloween. It's about a teenage girl who's obsessed by a local legend about a ghost bride who haunts her Kentucky town.
4. Cackle by Rachel Harrison (available October 5, 2021)—Another fun Halloween yarn, this one concerns a woman looking for a fresh start who moves to a quaint town in upstate New York. She's charmed by her new town, where everything is just too perfect to be real. Her new bestie included. It's not long before the newcomer begins to realize that something a little...otherworldly...may be going on.
5. Bottomland by Michelle Hoover—I need a book set in Iowa for the Literary Escapes Challenge and this novel sounds intriguing. It's about a German family in America who's been the center of anti-German sentiment following World War I. When two of their daughters go missing one night, they fear the worst. What happened to the girls? Will they ever be found?
6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë—This classic fits a few reading challenge prompts I need to fill, so it's a good time for a re-read.
7. The Gold in These Hills by Joanne Bischof—This dual-timeline novel concerns Juniper Cohen, a mail-order bride who finds love with a kind man in a rough California mining town. When he disappears, she's confused and distraught. One hundred years later, a struggling single dad finds the letters Juniper wrote to her lost husband and becomes embroiled in their long-ago mystery.
8. The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes—The Inheritance Games is a fun YA novel about an ordinary girl who learns she's in the running to inherit an immense fortune. I've been looking forward to the sequel, which continues the story of the madcap competition that will win someone a very large amount of money.
9. The Cure for What Ales You by Ellie Alexander (available October 5, 2021)—The Sloan Krause series is one of my favorite cozies, so I'm eagerly awaiting this fifth installment. In this one, Sloan is still on the hunt for her birthmother. When the woman she believes is her mother becomes a suspect in a murder, things start to get super complicated...
10. What Beauty There Is by Cory Anderson—Idaho is another of the few states I have left in the Literary Escapes Challenge, so I'm going to give this YA book a go. It's about two desperate teenagers on the hunt for a cache of money that will enable both to survive their bleak existences. They're not the only ones, however, who will stop at nothing to find the stash.
There you go, a variety of novels I'm hoping to read this Fall. Have you read any of them? What did you think? What are you planning to read in the next few months? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT!

You’re making me want to reread Jane Eyre, too! What a great story, and very fitting for autumn.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely due for a re-read! And, I agree, it's the perfect time of year for it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lydia!
I'm thrilled you are gong to meet Jane Eyre!
ReplyDeleteRe-meet, but yes, I'm excited for the reunion :)
DeleteThanks for popping in, Emma!
The Hawthorne Legacy is on my list, too! I really enjoyed the first one. And I read Survive the Night recently. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteTHE INHERITANCE GAMES was such a fun read! I'm hoping the sequel is just as good or even better.
DeleteGood to hear that SURVIVE THE NIGHT kept you engaged. Sager's good at that!
Thanks for stopping by, Lori!
I love how you have a Part 1! There are so many amazing authors releasing books this year. So that part 1 makes a lot of sense! I hope you enjoy all of these.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. It could be a ten-part series, no problem. So many books, so little time...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deanna!
Survive the Night is one I'd like to read too. It looks good! A ride share road trip. Yikes that's not asking for trouble ha ha!
ReplyDeleteRight? It's such a simple but terrifying premise. ANYTHING could happen!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Greg!
I have not counted how many are left that I want/need to read for the year...probably close to how many you are planning...I will try to get them added up. Yay, that you get to go to France, sounds great!!! I hope you all have a great time. I have not read any on your list, (except Jane Eyre but I don't remember it and need to reread it) but they look interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the year is 200 books, which I'm going to hit with no problem. We'll see how many I get to beyond that.
DeleteI'm excited for France! It will be fun to see all those places I've always heard about but never seen in person.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Cindy!
I saw Kathy at Inside of a Dog mention The Hawthorne Legacy this week and wondered if it was a sequel to The Inheritance Games. I haven't even read the first one yet but I'd like to! And Joanne at Gulfside Musing is currently doing a re-read of Jane Eyre too!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
Oh, and I hope you have a *fantastic* trip to Europe! So exciting!
DeleteTHE INHERITANCE GAMES is a really fun read. You'll enjoy it.
DeleteGreat minds think alike! I'll have to pop over to Gulfside Musing and join in the fun.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Jen!
Great list! I still have to read Inheritance Games. I really should do that soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping my my post earlier! https://readbakecreate.com/books-counting-down-from-ten/
You should! It's a really fun read.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Pam!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE the site. It's so stinking cuuuute! <3
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've got a selection of great books coming up to read! I just finished The Hawthorne Legacy and absolutely LOVED it. Better than the first book! I hope you get to read it soon. I really want to read What Beauty There Is, too. :) Happy reading!
Thank you! It was fun to get a blog makeover :)
DeleteI'm so glad to hear THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY is even better than the first book. That's awesome. Now, I'm REALLY excited to read it. I'm on the wait list for it at the library, so we'll see how long it takes for me to actually get it in my hands.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sammie!
Survive the Night is one I'm hoping to read this fall too. Looks perfect for spooky season. Yay on finally getting to take your trip to Europe. I hope everything goes smoothly and that you'll have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteThis trip has been a long time coming, so I'm glad it's finally happening. There were be some irritants (like multiple COVID tests), but it will be worth it. I can't wait to see everything!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Suzanne!
I am so excited for you to travel to the UK and can't wait to see photos and hear stories! Where are you going exactly?
ReplyDeleteI'm excited, too! We're combining regular sightseeing and family history sightseeing, so we'll fly into London, then drive all over England, Wales, and Scotland. Then, we're taking the chunnel to Paris for a few days. I'm a little bummed that we're skipping Ireland, but we've already got A LOT to see in just two weeks.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Helen!
Looks like you have a lot of fun reads coming up! I really want to read Survive the Night😁
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like such a good read, doesn't it? I'm waiting anxiously for the library to let me know the book is ready for me. Any day now...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Tammy!
I haven't heard of quite a few books on this list but they've intrigued me! That cover for What Beauty There Is is stunning 😍 I hope you enjoy all these reads and have a wonderful and safe trip to Europe!
ReplyDeleteIt is a cool cover and it sounds like an intriguing book. I've got an e-ARC - I just need to make time to read it!
DeleteThanks for popping in!
These sound great!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hope they're as good as they sound :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Leah!
These all sound so good, great list!! And have fun on your upcoming trip! 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm excited for the trip. There are so many awesome things to see in this world :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Great list hope you enjoy your books and your trip to the UK!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll probably take at least one of these books with me to read on the plane. We'll see.
DeleteThanks for popping in, NickiMags!
I hope you have a great vacation! This sounds like a good list, but I haven't read any (other than Jane Eyre) so I can't provide opinions on them. I do enjoy inheritance competition stories, though, so The Hawthorne Legacy sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteYou'll like THE INHERITANCE GAMES then. It's super fun.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Nicole!
Jane Eyre is the only one of those I have read and you‘ve been to my blog already. So for now I just wish you a nice holiday in Europe! I‘m not on top of what the UK and France require in terms of testing when entering them, as I am sticking to my home country Germany at the moment… less hassle!
ReplyDeleteYou have to be vaccination (which is no problem since we're all vaccinated anyway), but some intense testing is required in-country. Basically, we're going to spend what we saved on discounted airfare on COVID testing. Oh well. I'm tired of rescheduling the trip—it will be worth the hassle. I don't really blame you for staying home, though!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Cathy!
Of these, I've only read Jane Eyre, and even that one seems like a lifetime ago now Interesting choices, so I'll look forward to hearing about them later.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in the U.K. and France! I'm so jealous...still hoping to get back to the U.K. one day, but I dread flying so much that I wonder if I will ever see either country again. Can't wait to hear all about it.
I don't love flying, especially these days with masks and all, but it will be worth it. There's so much I want to see, in the U.K. especially, that I really am getting more excited every day. Literally walking in my ancestors' steps just really appeals to my genealogy-loving soul :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!
I've read The Gold in These Hills and really enjoyed it. Hope you do too!
ReplyDeleteOh, good! I started it last night, but it was late so I didn't get very far before I had to get to bed. I'm looking forward to the read.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Wendy!
I really want to read the Hawthorne books! I love her other books--especially The Naturals. I hope you enjoy these reads!
ReplyDeleteThe only other book I've read by Barnes is THE LOVELY AND THE LOST, which I didn't love. I really enjoyed THE INHERITANCE GAMES, though. It's just very entertaining.
DeleteThanks for popping in, FangirlFlax!
First of all, I hope you guys have a wonderful trip! Know you are so looking forward to it. As to your list, love it. I have the Riley Sager book checked out from the library right now, but haven't started it yet. Soon, soon....
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am excited and I'm getting even more excited the more research I do. I've been diving deep, finding the actual roads that my ancestors lived on, the churches they were christened and married in, etc. I can't wait to visit all these spots! I'm anticipating a very soul-touching experience :)
DeleteI'm #1 on the list for Sager's book, so any day now.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Kay!
Great list! Now I have a few more titles to add to my own TBR. I hope you and your family have a fantastic time in the UK and France! I was lucky to take a trip in 2019 and spend several weeks in the UK. There's so much history and fun to be had!
ReplyDeleteYes! We'll be in Europe for two weeks and our schedule is really packed. I know it won't be enough, but at least I'll have some ideas about where to go on our next trip :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Ethan!
You've got quite some reads ahead of you. The only one of those I have read is "Jane Eyre". "Bottomland" and "The Gold in These Hills" sound like they would interest me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TTT earlier.
I just started THE GOLD IN THESE HILLS and I'm liking it so far, although I've only read a few pages. I'm planning to pick up BOTTOMLAND at the library when my Sager book comes in, which will be any day now hopefully.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Marianne!
Sounds great. I miss my old library that would order books for me. This one, if they don't have it, they don't have it.
DeleteAnyway, enjoy Europe. Maybe let me know where you are going?
We're flying into London, traveling all over England, then into Wales and Scotland. We're going to end our trip by taking the chunnel to Paris for a few days. That's only the tip of the iceberg as far as what I want to see in Europe, but we're going to fit in as much as we can in our two weeks. Maybe I'll travel to Germany sometime in the future!
DeleteThey are all great desitinations. What a shame you couldn't add Ireland to your island experience, it's wonderful.
DeleteAnd if it wasn't Corona time and I'd be in better health, I'd even travel to Paris to meet you. So, whenever you plan to come the next time, send me a message and I might even be able to be your tour guide to some places.
I have only read Jane Eyre from your list. I'm thinking of re-read it as well since it's been a long while.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read a thriller, I noticed a lot of people like Riley Sager's books but I don't know.
Have a lovely day.
Sager's a big fan favorite. His books generally have a spooky tone to them. They're very atmospheric and gripping. I recommend them if you're in to that kind of thing :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lissa!
That's pretty much my dream European vacation. I hope it goes fabulously! As for the books, what a great list.
ReplyDelete"Beyond The Mapped Stars" is a gorgeous title, with a cover to match. #3 looks like a perfect fall read, and I am intrigued by both the setting and premise of #10. And we actually have a match -- #8 is going on my list next week too! The first one was my first read by JLB, and it wildly exceeded my expectations so I can't wait for more.
There's so much more of Europe I want to see, but we only have so much time to spend there this time so we're concentrating on our top-priority countries.
DeleteTHE INHERITANCE GAMES really is a fun read. I loved it.
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, RS!
I haven't checked out Jennifer Lynn Barnes's newest novels, but I really should. Hope you enjoy all these, happy reading!
ReplyDeleteTHE INHERITANCE GAMES is an entertaining start to what is bound to be a super fun series. I can't wait to see where it goes!
DeleteThanks for popping in, Alicia!
I've read Survive the Night. I hope you enjoy it! The Inheritance Games sounds so cool, I'm curious about it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pick up SURVIVE THE NIGHT at the library TODAY. So excited! I definitely recommend THE INHERITANCE GAMES. It's just fun.
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Andie!
The only one I have read is Jane Eyre, which could be lovely to get you in the mood for your trip to little old England. 🙂
ReplyDeleteTrue! We live in a week, so I probably won't have time to read it before then, but we'll see.
DeleteThanks for popping in, Jessica!
The Hawthorne Legacy sounds like fun! I'll add it to my TBR list. It's been probably 40 years or more since I read Jane Eyre; I suppose I ought to read it again one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI read JANE EYRE for the first time as an adult, so it hasn't been THAT long for me, but I'm still due for a re-read!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lark!
Joanne always writes a compelling novel and one of these days I *need* to read a book by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Her books sound fun. :) Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland last week; hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteGold in These Hills and the Ellie Alexander books are on my fall TBR as well. I hope you enjoy them all, Susan.
ReplyDeleteSurvive the Night is on my TBR as well, even though I don't usually pick up thrillers.
ReplyDelete
